💖 What’s with All the Love Signs on Whidbey Island?

If you’ve driven around Whidbey lately, you may have noticed something beautiful — bright, bold LOVE signs appearing on lawns, storefronts, and gathering spaces across the island. So what’s the story behind them?

on my Freeland Clinic Office Door

It all began with a surprise on my doorstep in 2024. One morning, I opened the door to find a hundred Love Signs stacked neatly in a UPS box and waiting — a gift from my two incredible Reiki masters and artists, Sunni Gail Shafer and Sunny Robichaux, the creators behind NOLA Love Legacy. Their project began in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, spreading simple but powerful reminders of love, connection, and community resilience.

Moved by their generosity and message, I — Marc Juneau, founder of Whidbey Island Web Design and local massage therapist at Whidbey Massage Therapy — decided to help bring the movement here. Through Whidbey Island Web Design, I became a sponsor of the Love Legacy project, launching a Whidbey Island “Love Signs” campaign to share the message across our island communities from Clinton to Oak Harbor!

Each sign is more than just art — it’s an act of healing. Love, after all, is energy. It’s the same energy I channel through Reiki, sound healing, and bodywork in my practice. Sunni and Sunny’s work aligns perfectly with that philosophy — a visual vibration of compassion and kindness that transcends words.

Since the campaign began, the signs have found homes in front of local shops, community halls, and homes — and every one of them carries the same quiet invitation: to live and act with love.

It’s been humbling to watch how something so simple can ripple outward, connecting strangers, brightening days, and sparking conversations about kindness, art, and healing.
